Work Requires Temporary Lane Shifts, Closures on Weekdays and Weekends; Paving Work Targeted for Completion by Late June
(April 29, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project Monday, May 2, to repair and resurface a section of I-70 in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County. The work, which will include temporary lane shifts and closures, will improve the roadway surface for motorists. Work will be complete by late June.
Crews will work along westbound I-70 between MD 122 (Security Boulevard) and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) on the following schedule:
- Starting Monday, May 2, crews will work weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to prepare segments of the roadway for the new concrete. Motorists can expect temporary lane shifts and closures.
- Starting Friday, May 6, crews will work each weekend continuously, 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to pour concrete. Each weekend until the project is complete, motorists can expect continuous lane closures on I-70.
Temporary traffic signs, reflective barrels and electronic arrow boards will alert and guide motorists through the work zone. MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General Inc., of Gaithersburg, is performing the concrete work.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
