​Project Includes Infrastructure Upgrades Near Oakland

(April 4, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is launching a $2.8 million safety and resurfacing project along 3.6 miles of MD 39 from Ashby Ellis Road to US 219 near Oakland in Garrett County.      

The project includes:

• milling, paving and applying pavement markings,   
• replacing and upgrading traffic barriers,   
• extending the pre-cast box culvert, and    
• replacing pipes and performing other drainage improvements.   

“A key strategy to maintaining our infrastructure is preserving all the assets in good condition on Maryland’s existing roadway system,” said Administrator Tim Smith. “This project is an example of addressing all assets of the roadway system along this corridor that connects Maryland and West Virginia.” 

This project is slated to begin this spring and be completed in November of this year. Motorists can expect daily lane closures and occasional flagging operations. The contract was awarded to BYCO Enterprises Inc. of Grantsville. Learn more about the project here.
