​Beginning Monday, March 21, Crews Will Work Days, Nights and Weekends; Travel Access Will Remain Open, But Motorists Advised to Seek Alternate Routes

(March 17, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has begun a project to improve the roadway surface of the US 340 bridge over Catoctin Creek near Jefferson in Frederick County. Beginning 9 a.m. Monday, March 21, crews will work on the project continuously – daytime, overnight and weekends. The project is expected to be complete in April, weather permitting.   

Crews will repair potholes, install planking braces to strengthen the bridge deck, patch concrete and add a new roadway surface on the bridge to improve safety.    

The work requires single-lane closures on the bridge. MDOT SHA will maintain at least one travel lane open in each direction throughout the project. However, motorists should expect significant delays and are advised to take alternates route during the construction period. MDOT SHA will use electronic boards, cones, barrels, and signs to alert motorists about the lane closures and guide them through the work zone.
