Project Team Seeking Input on the Proposed Stabilization Project Design; Comments Also Accepted Via Online Project Portal Page
(March 4, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will hold a virtual public informational meeting 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. regarding the MD 24 (Rocks Road) – Section G Slope Protection project in the Forest Hill area of Harford County. This section of MD 24 runs from 700 feet south of Sharon Road to 1,700 feet north of Ferncliff Lane.
The purpose of this project is to stabilize the embankment adjacent to Deer Creek, repair the roadway and associated features, and protect the road from erosion. MD 24 is a major rural roadway linking Harford County to Pennsylvania and is used mainly by commuters, school buses, delivery trucks and recreational park users.
The flow of Deer Creek, a designated Scenic and Wild River alongside MD 24, is causing erosion of the existing embankment and undermining the roadway bed. The stabilization project is currently in the design phase. Pending available funding, construction could start as early as spring 2023.
At the March 9 virtual meeting, members of MDOT SHA will give a presentation about the preferred design alternative, and the public will have the opportunity to submit questions, comments and concerns. The public is encouraged to submit comments prior to the meeting via the
