Overnight Work Near MD 214 (Central Avenue) is Part of Dual Bridge Replacement; Single, Multiple Lane Closures Expected Through Fall
(September 15, 2021) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin resurfacing a portion of I-495 (Capital Beltway) in the Largo area of Prince George’s County on Sunday, September 19. Crews will work overnight on I-495 between Arena Drive and Ritchie Marlboro Road through the fall.
Beginning 9 p.m. Sunday, crews will mill the top layer of asphalt and resurface it with a new layer, then apply new pavement markings to the roadway. Crews will work 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. During work hours, motorists should expect single- and multiple-lane closures. Crews may also require single- and multiple-lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays for other activities related to the project.
This resurfacing is part of the $32 million Capital Beltway dual bridge replacement project over MD 214 (Central Avenue), which is expected to complete at the end of this year. Learn more about the project

During the resurfacing, crews will begin working on the Outer Loop of I-495 before progressing to the Inner Loop. To expedite this project, crews may occasionally work on both loops of I-495. Once resurfacing is complete, crews will continue other activities related to the project using off-peak overnight work hours.
