Daytime Work Covers Four Miles of Roadway

(September 13, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has begun a roadway surface improvement project on MD 17 (Burkittsville Road) in Frederick County. At 8 a.m. this morning, crews began patching potholes and resurfacing both directions of MD 17, between US 340 and the border of the village of Burkittsville, just north of Brownsville Pass Road. The project, which spans almost four miles, is expected to be complete in November, weather permitting.

The work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may also be work during daytime hours on Saturdays if the project experiences weather delays. Single lane closures will be required during work hours.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, C.J. Miller, LLC, has placed electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closures.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Stranded motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
