​Motorists Should Expect Nighttime & Daytime Lane Closures on Inner & Outer Loops Through End of the Year

(August 11, 2021) – Beginning this week, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will conduct work on Friday nights on I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) as part of the $36.4 million project to replace Beltway bridges over Suitland Parkway in Prince George’s County. Beginning 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Saturday, motorists can expect single- and multiple-lane closures on the Inner and Outer loops of I-95/I-495.

Moving forward, work will continue overnight Sundays through Fridays, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning. Single- and multiple-lane closures may be required during these times, with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m. each day. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Additionally, crews may close lanes weekdays during off-peak hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with some lane closures on Suitland Parkway also possible during these hours. The lane closures are required as crews set structural steel for the bridge. Once the steel work is complete, crews will begin pouring the structure’s concrete deck.
