Starting Sunday, Crews Begin Two Overnight Projects on Different Sections of the Roadway
(July 29, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin improving the driving surface on two sections of MD 17 in Frederick County on Sunday, August 1.
Starting at 8 p.m., crews will repair potholes and resurface both directions of the MD 17 (Burkittsville Road) bridge between Maryland Avenue at the roundabout in Brunswick and the Virginia line, a span of a half-mile. This project is expected to be completed in one week.
Also at 8 p.m. Sunday, crews will begin repairing potholes and improving the roadway surface on MD 17 between the MD 180 (Jefferson Pike) roundabout and East Mountain Road, including the bridge over US 340, near Brunswick in Frederick County. This patching project is expected to be complete in two weeks.
Crews on both projects will work nightly, Sunday to Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
The two projects on MD 17 will require single-lane closures with a flagging operation while the work is taking place. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Charles J. Miller, LLC, will use electronic board signs, cones, and barrels to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closures.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Stranded motorists can dial #77 or 911 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
