US 1 sign
(June 21, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is improving the surface on two and a half miles of US 1 (Washington Boulevard) in the Laurel area of Howard County. Crews are working on US 1 between the Little Patuxent River just past Gorman Road, to the Howard/Prince George’s County line just past Columbia Street.
The work started Sunday night and will continue for the next two weeks, weather permitting. Crews are working Sunday evening through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. They will also work daytime hours Wednesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During work hours, motorists can expect single lane closures on US 1 so crews can safely complete the work. MDOT SHA will use electronic signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the work zone and lane closure.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
