(January 5, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will install beams on the MD 56 (Big Pool Road) bridge over I-70 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway) tomorrow and Thursday. This work calls for overnight closures and detours on both directions of I-70 each night between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Crews will be working on westbound I-70 tomorrow, Jan. 6, and eastbound I-70 on Thursday, Jan. 7. Each night, the project will begin with a left lane closure at 8 p.m. and the detour will be set in place by 11 p.m. A flagging operation will be in place on MD 56, along with portable message signs. Detour signs, traffic cones, and traffic barrels will guide motorists through this detour.
MDOT SHA contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will be conducting the work.
The MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits and other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
