(November 23, 2020) –  The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will be working on the northern roundabout of I-68 (National Freeway) and US 219/Chestnut Ridge Road in Grantsville, Garrett County tomorrow.

Starting at 7 a.m., motorists traveling I-68 westbound at US 219/Chestnut Ridge Road south will follow a posted detour as crews remove a concrete barrier, install a guardrail and lay the base pavement on the roundabout. The work is expected to be complete by 5 p.m. MDOT SHA contractor, Triton Construction, Inc from Albans, West Virginia, will be conducting the work.

The work is part of a project to expand US 219 into a four-lane, divided highway between I-68 and Old Salisbury Road. The project is expected to be complete by April 2021. Learn more about it here.

A flagging operation and portable message signs are in place to guide motorists from I-68 Westbound through the following detour:

  1. Take Exit 24 Lower New Germany Road
  2. At the stop sign take a right
  3. At the 2nd stop sign take a left onto US 40 West
  4. At the light turn left onto US 219 South/Chestnut Ridge Road

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.  Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
