(September 21, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin paving a new roadway surface on MD 180 between the I-70 exit ramps and west of Swallowtail Drive tonight at 9 p.m. The overnight work will require single lane closures with a flagging operation. The paving is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning and is expected to take two weeks to complete.

The paving is one of the final steps in a $19 million project that began in September 2019. In addition to the new two-lane eastbound MD 180 bridge that opened to traffic last month, MDOT SHA’s contractor Concrete General, Inc., also constructed a second left turn lane on MD 180 at Solarex Court and designated bike lane.

Approximately 27,000 vehicles travel through this section of MD 180 every day during normal traffic patterns.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
