(August 19, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will open the new eastbound MD 180 bridge over US 340/US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) to motorists during a traffic switch tomorrow night starting at 9 p.m. The $19 million project began in September 2019.
“We’re proud to deliver this project one month ahead of schedule to benefit the thousands of motorists who drive through Frederick every day,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Tim Smith. “This new bridge will eliminate a daily bottleneck in the corridor and improve traffic flow in an area that is thriving with new residents and businesses.”
In addition to the new two-lane bridge, contractor Concrete General, Inc. constructed a second left turn lane on MD 180 at Solarex Court and a dedicated bike lane. The entire project is expected to be completed next month.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
