(May 18, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will resurface US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) at Ridge Road in Howard County starting Sunday, May 17 at 8 p.m. The work will be performed Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and is expected to be complete in June.

On the first two nights of work, May 17 and May 18, the two left turn lanes on Westbound US 40 at Ridge Road will be closed and motorists will be detoured using St. John’s Lane. In addition to resurfacing, crews will revise line striping at this turn lane.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Gary and Son, Inc., will use electronic message boards, signs and cones to alert motorists ahead of the closure area, work zone and detour.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
