​(May 6, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) tomorrow will begin the next phase of replacing dual bridges on I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) over Padonia Rd. in Baltimore County.

The first half of the new bridges are ready for vehicular traffic and beginning this week, the contractor will create a new split traffic pattern on I-83 in both directions to enable construction of the second half of the project.

Weather permitting, contractor crews will move traffic barriers and re-mark the lanes on I-83 southbound beginning 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. A new traffic pattern on I-83 southbound will be in effect by 5 a.m. on Friday, May 8.

In case of inclement weather Thursday night, the contractor crews will set the new traffic pattern on Friday night, May 8 or Sunday night, May 10.

Once the new pattern is set on I-83 southbound, crews will set the new traffic pattern on I-83 northbound late May.

The $22 million project is performed by contractor Milani Construction, LLC of Washington, DC. The new traffic patterns on I-83 will be in place approximately six months, until late fall 2020.
There may be single lane closures on Padonia Rd. westbound between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

One lane of Padonia Rd eastbound is closed and the interchange ramp from Padonia Rd eastbound to I-83 northbound is closed until the entire project is complete.
