(November 19, 2019) – On Wednesday, November 20, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will shift northbound I-270 traffic at the MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) interchange to a newly constructed bridge. The shift will begin at 9 p.m. and lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Thursday, November 21. The work is part of the $87 million widening of MD 85 and replacement of the two I-270 bridges at the interchange.

Motorists can expect temporary single lane closures during the traffic switch. MDOT SHA will use electronic message boards, barrels and temporary signs to guide motorists through the work zone.

More than 115,000 motorists travel through this area each day, so motorists should plan extra travel time.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
