Detour of Both Directions of I-68 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.; Bridge Replacement Project Entering Final Phase of Work
(October 15, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily detour I-68 (National Freeway) at MD 639 (Willowbrook Road) each night the next two weeks. MDOT SHA will implement the temporary detour each night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. MDOT SHA has performed these same closures on occasion throughout the duration of this $6.2 million bridge replacement project.
Drivers will be detoured down the off-ramps, across Willowbrook Road and back onto I-68. One direction will be set up at a time and when that side is complete the detour will be switched to the other direction. Approximately 17,000 motorist travel on that section of I-68 daily, but that volume significantly decreases during overnight hours. Drivers are encouraged to allow additional commuting time.
