Upgraded Traffic Signals Will Be Activated on MD175/Reece and Mapes Road Intersections

(September 25, 2019) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will activate upgraded traffic signals at two key MD 175 (Annapolis Road) intersections near Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County. The upgraded traffic signals are part of the MD 175 intersection improvement project at Mapes and Reece roads.

MDOT SHA crews will deactivate the current signals and activate new signals at Mapes Road/Charter Oaks Boulevard and Reece Road intersections:

MD 175 at Mapes Road/Charter Oaks Boulevard: MDOT SHA crews will work on site Thursday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

MD 175 at Reece Road: MDOT SHA crews will work on site overnight between 9 p.m. Thursday night and 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Local law enforcement and MDOT SHA crews will monitor traffic at the intersections during each operation. The new signals provide support for the new traffic patterns at each intersection. This work is part of the $23.6 million MD 175 project to enhance operations and safety at the two intersections. Drivers are reminded to remain alert for traffic pattern changes and work crews when traveling through the work zone.

This section of MD 175 carries nearly 28,000 vehicles a day. MDOT customers who have questions about this work or other State-numbered routes in Anne Arundel County may contact the MDOT SHA District Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
