(March 5, 2019) – This month, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to upgrade and improve highway drainage systems at the I-270/MD 118 (Germantown Road) interchange. The $906,000 project should be complete spring 2020.

Motorists can expect narrowed ramp lanes during construction with some weekend total loop ramp closures for pipe crossings. There may also be occasional single lane closures during off-peak hours on mainline I-270. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Old Line Construction, Inc. of Dunkirk, is permitted to work Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Drivers should stay alert for additional road work as this project is within the limits of the I-270 at Watkins Mill Road interchange and the I-270 Innovative Congestion Relief (ICM) projects.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
