Due to impending winter weather, the planned weekend ramp closure will now take place on Friday, January 18 at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, January 21.
(January 7, 2018) – On Friday, January 18 at 11 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close the outer loop of I-695 (westbound) (Baltimore Beltway) ramp to MD 542 (Loch Raven Boulevard) and Cromwell Bridge Road. The weekend ramp closure and detour is necessary for underground pipe crossing work within the interchange. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, January 21.
Ramp Detour: Motorists will be guided to the Providence Road exit and use southbound Providence Road to the inner loop of I-695 (eastbound) and back to Cromwell Bridge Road.
Temporary digital message signs and construction traffic signs will guide motorist through the detour route.
Motorists may also want to consider using the I-695/MD 41 (Perring Parkway) interchange to Joppa Road to Loch Raven Boulevard as an alternate route. In case of inclement weather, the weekend ramp closure will take place the next possible weekend (January 18 or later).
The $9.2 million project is slated for completion fall 2020.
While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
