24-Hour Single Lane Closure in Effect East of Johnnycake Road in Effect Until Mid-July; Motorists Should Plan for Extra Travel Time, Expect Peak-Hour Delays on Eastbound US 40

 

(June 27, 2018) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has temporarily closed a short section of the left lane of eastbound US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) east of Johnnycake Road in Catonsville for emergency repairs to the drainage pipe system in the median of US 40.  Approximately 600 feet of the left lane is now closed to traffic 24 hours a day for the pipe repairs until mid-July, weather permitting.  Two lanes remain open on eastbound US 40 and all three lanes are open on westbound US 40.  

 

Portable digital message signs are in place on eastbound US 40 to alert travelers to the highway work zone, and temporary traffic barriers are in place at the work zone to help protect highway workers and travelers. 

 

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
