(April 26, 2018) - On Tuesday, May 1, the Crosby Road bridge over I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) will be closed to all traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for construction work on the new bridge. The contractor will be pouring concrete for a support pier that will support the new bridge.
Please plan for extra travel time near the bridge work zone and on the detour routes.
Detour Routes:
- Westbound Crosby Road: Crosby Road to southbound Craigmont Road to southbound Ingleside Avenue to westbound US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) to N. Rolling Road north to northbound Chesworth Road and back to Crosby Road.
- Eastbound Crosby Road: Crosby Road to southbound Chesworth Road to N. Rolling Road to eastbound US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) to northbound Ingleside Avenue to northbound Craigmont Road and back to Crosby Road.
The concrete work, which includes pouring concrete into a large-scale mold and then curing into a solid form for several hours, is temperature-sensitive and will be done during daylight hours. In case of inclement weather, the work and bridge closure will take place on the next possible day. Digital message signs on each side of the bridge will alert drivers with a message.
This work is part of MDOT SHA’s $7 million project to replace the two-lane Crosby Road bridge over I-695. Construction work began fall 2017. Weather permitting, the entire bridge replacement project will be complete summer 2019.
While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
