Two Projects in Queen Anne’s County Starting as MDOT SHA Readies for Busy Construction Season

(March 7, 2018) – Winter may still have its icy grip on the region, but the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) won’t let snow, nor freezing temperatures stop us from thinking warm thoughts – like paving. And why not? Many of the roads being salted and plowed now will be milled and resurfaced as construction season kicks off.

The two key spring resurfacing projects are US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) near Queenstown and MD 19 (Main Street/Walnut Street) in Church Hill. David A. Bramble of Chestertown is MDOT SHA's contractor for the projects..

Beginning next week, MDOT SHA will start off in Church Hill and begin resurfacing nearly two miles of MD 19. This includes all of Main Street and Walnut Street within the town limits.  In addition to resurfacing, crews will reconstruct sidewalk curb ramps to current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Northbound US 301 also will be resurfaced between Greenspring Road and MD 213 (Centreville Road), a distance of four miles. Work includes patching, milling and paving, as well as upgrading guardrails to current Federal Highway Administration standards.

MDOT SHA awarded contracts valued at $785,000 and $2.5 million, respectively, for the MD 19 and US 301 projects.  About 3,000 vehicles travel through Church Hill on MD 19 and more than 45,000 vehicles travel US 301 between Greenspring Road and MD 213 each day.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
