MD 611 to be Closed and Detoured Next Week

(March 2, 2017) – On Monday, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will replace aging drainage pipes on MD 611 (Stephen Decatur Highway) between Antique Road and Landings Boulevard in Berlin. MD 611 will be closed and detoured each day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Friday, March 9.

Motorists will be directed to US 50 (Ocean Gateway) to US 113 (Worcester Highway) to MD 376 (Assateague Road) and back to MD 611. Drivers should add extra commute time. The work is being performed by MDOT SHA crews.

Simultaneously, contractor crews will begin milling (removal of the top layer of asphalt) MD 611 between MD 376 and US 50 as part of a four-mile resurfacing project that will improve ride quality for the more than 11,000 vehicles that travel on this section of MD 611 each day.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Allan Myers, Inc. of Fallston, will alternate traffic on MD 611 during the resurfacing project. Barrels, cones and flaggers will guide traffic through the work zone. The $1.7 million resurfacing project will be complete by the end of April.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
