MDOT SHA to Open Temporary Roundabout and Detour the Mt. Vista Road Leg of the Harford Road/Glen Arm Road/Mt. Vista Road Intersection Beginning Friday, October 27

(October 17, 2017) – Weather permitting, on Friday, October 27, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close access to Mt. Vista Road at MD 147 (Harford Road) as crews begin the third phase of the $3.7 million project to construct a new roundabout at the Harford Road intersection with Glen Arm and Mt. Vista roads in Baltimore County.  Simultaneously, crews will re-open access to Glen Arm Road, which has been closed since late-June.

MDOT SHA will post digital message boards along Harford Road and US 1 (Belair Road) with advance notification of the new traffic pattern, which includes a temporary roundabout. Once the traffic pattern is shifted, Mt. Vista Road will be closed at Harford Road and will re-open late fall. Harford Road will remain open to traffic during the third phase of work, which includes center roundabout and median island construction, tree planting and landscaping.

Residents, commuters and commercial vehicle drivers should plan for extra travel time on Harford Road and the Mt. Vista Road detour route during the next two months. Barrels and signs will guide travelers through the temporary roundabout. MDOT SHA will post signs for the following detour route for Mt. Vista Road: Harford Road to Sunshine Avenue to Belair Road to Mt. Vista Road.    

“MDOT SHA appreciates residents’ and commuters’ patience and caution while traveling within the Harford Road construction work zone and along the Mt. Vista Road detour route this fall,” said MDOT SHA District 4 Engineer Wendy Wolcott. 

MDOT SHA’s contractor is Kinsley Construction, Inc. of Timonium. The new roundabout and the Mt. Vista Road connection to Harford Road should be open to all traffic in November. Contractor crews will return to the roundabout in spring 2018 to complete final pavement work.
