Project Will Improve Safety and Ride Quality between Perryville and North East

(September 2, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) is improving more than seven miles of US 40 (Pulaski Highway) between MD 222 (Perryville Road) and MD 272 (North East Road) in Cecil County.  SHA’s contractor will remove the top layer of pavement, patch, resurface, and restripe the road;  as well as replace guardrail, curbs, gutters, inlet grates and raised pavement markers.

Crews will work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to install erosion and sediment controls.  Milling, paving and other road work will take place overnight Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures and flagging operations.  SHA’s contractor for the $8.2 million project, Allan Myers of Fallston, should complete work by the end of the year, weather permitting.

An average of 25,000 vehicles travel this section of US 40 each day.  Motorists should plan extra travel time and use caution when driving through the work zone.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
