Traffic Will Be Maintained During Construction; Motorist Advised to Slow Down and Stay Alert

(June 22, 2016) – On Tuesday, July 5 the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a $5.8 million project to replace the US 15 Bridge over MD 26 (Liberty Road) in Frederick County.  The project should be complete summer 2017, weather permitting. 

The 59-year old steel girder bridge is safe, but has outlived its useful life and will be replaced. The project also includes replace concrete supports and piers, installing a new bridge deck (driving surface) and paving the bridge approaches.

Work will be complete in two phases to maintain all travel lanes for drivers throughout the project.  The nearly 21,000 motorists that use the US 15 Bridge over MD 26 each day may encounter lane shifts and narrow travel lanes.

 

SHA’s contractor for the bridge replacement is Flippo Construction Company, Inc. of Forestville.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
