Traffic to be Temporarily Detoured Between June 21 and Late August

(June 16, 2016) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will reconstruct the MD 77 (Rocky Ridge Road) Bridge over the Monocacy River in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County.  SHA’s contractor will begin next week and work should be complete late summer, weather permitting. 

In order to complete the work, crews will close the bridge to traffic on June 21 and post detour signs.  SHA will direct motorists to the following detour - MD 194 (Frances Scott Key Highway) to MD 550 (Woodsboro Creagerstown Road) back to MD 77.  Residents may also consider nearby alternate routes. The average daily traffic on MD 77 is 800 vehicles.

The bridge closure is necessary as crews replace the deteriorated 84 year-old concrete deck (riding surface) of the bridge. The project also includes removal and replacement of deteriorated steel beams, repairing, cleaning and painting structural steel, repairing concrete supports and piers, and paving the bridge approaches.

The $2.6 million bridge replacement project will be complete by Pessoa Construction Inc. of Fairmount Heights.
