Off-Peak Daytime, Nighttime Lane Closures Needed to Expedite Work
Substantial portions of inlet, traffic signal and concrete work are now complete on the project, which started late 2014. The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) adjusted the final resurfacing schedule to allow for utility relocations to help preserve the condition of the roadway once resurfacing is complete. Crews will remove the top layer of asphalt, resurface and apply new pavement markings to all traffic lanes.
To perform the work, the contractor is permitted to close a single lane in both directions of MD 414 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and overnights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Additional lane closures and work times may be needed to expedite the resurfacing work.
Drivers should be aware of changing traffic patterns during resurfacing. Equipment used to complete all phases of work can be disruptive. Drivers should plan ahead any may encounter work zone delays.
While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
