MD 140 Returns to Two Lanes in Each Direction

(September 18, 2015) – This weekend the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift traffic on the MD 140 (Baltimore Boulevard) bridge over the Patapsco River at the Baltimore/Carroll County line. Crews will begin the lane shift at   6 a.m. on Saturday, and complete the work by 8 p.m. Saturday. This phase of the project ends the need for overhead lane signals and the removable barrier system.

“We are excited that the MD 140 Bridge project is entering its final phase and we can deliver our customers a new, rehabilitated bridge,” said SHA District 7 Engineer Mark Crampton. “SHA appreciates motorists’ patience throughout construction and asks for continued attention to driving safely through our work zones.”

The rain date for the traffic switch is Saturday, September 26. The entire project should be completed by early 2016, weather permitting. After the shift, crews will replace the last steel girder and pave the shoulders.  Motorists will have full access (two lanes in each direction) after the shift. In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down.  Everyone is at risk.
