Work will Take Place at Night to Minimize Traffic Impacts
(September 11, 2015) – On Monday, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will start a $2 million resurfacing project on more than one mile of MD 175 (Waterloo Road) between I-95 and Columbia Gateway Drive in Howard County. The project should be complete late fall; weather permitting.
In addition to grinding (removing the top layer of asphalt), resurfacing and restriping, SHA will update highway signage and upgrade guardrail where applicable. The road was last resurfaced nearly 10 years ago.
Crews will work primarily at night to minimize delays for the more than 70,000 vehicles that travel this section of MD 175 each day. Motorists should expect weeknight single and double lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. SHA will use cones, barrels and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. There may also be a flagging operation at the intersections in the project limits.
SHA’s contractor for the project is CJ Miller of Hampstead.
In addition to this project, drivers may also encounter mobile or short-term work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra close attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), stay alert and slow down. Everyone is at risk.
