(July 23, 2015) – On Monday, July 27 the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin drainage work along the northbound side of US 301, just past the MD 304 intersection.  Work includes pile driving and construction of a box culvert as part of a stormwater management system.

 

To help ensure the safety of workers and motorists, SHA will close the right lane of US 301 at MD 304.  This closure will remain in place through the summer and will result in a new temporary traffic pattern: Motorists on westbound MD 304 must stop before merging onto northbound US 301.  SHA is urging all motorists – especially commuters who use the J-turn in this area – to allow a few extra minutes for their weekday morning travel.

 

This work is part of a multi-year effort to improve safety and traffic flow on Maryland’s eastern shore by converting the US 301/MD 304 at-grade intersection to a grade-separated interchange with roundabouts and service roads.  SHA awarded the $30.3 million construction contract to David A. Bramble of Chestertown.  On average about 20,000 vehicles travel US 301 and 4,000 travel MD 304 in this area each day.
