Motorists Should Expect Delays, Use Signed Detour Route to Avoid Work Zone

(December 15, 2014) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) continues to make progress on a $10 million streetscape project on MD 5 (Branch Avenue) between Curtis Drive and Southern Avenue (Washington, D.C. line).  The work also includes the intersection of MD 5 and MD 637 (Naylor Road) in Temple Hills, Prince George’s County. Currently, crews are performing water line replacements within the project limits.

Beginning tonight at 9 p.m., crews will replace a water main necessitating the temporary closure of Naylor Road from Good Hope Road to MD 5. All traffic lanes should reopen no later than 5 a.m. Tuesday. In case of inclement weather, crews will perform the water main replacement Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Motorists should use the approved and signed detour route of Curtis Drive, 28th Parkway and Oxon Run Drive and plan ahead by adding extra commute time. Customers with questions regarding any service interruptions during the water main replacement should call the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission’s (WSSC) 24-hour emergency service hotline at 301-206-4002.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes.
