The $1.2 million project includes milling, resurfacing and restriping the two and one-half mile section of highway, which serves an average of about 30,000 eastbound vehicles per day. When the project is complete, those drivers will travel on a smoother, safer pavement surface with fresh, bright lines.
Motorists should anticipate single-lane closures Monday through Thursday nights between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. as well as possible single-lane closures on Sunday mornings between midnight at 11 a.m. SHA will use signs, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.
SHA’s contractor for the project is P&W Excavating, Inc. of McConnellsburg, Pa. Anyone with questions about traffic operations on I-70 or other State numbered routes in Washington County may contact SHA’s District 6 office at 301-729-8400 or toll-free at 800-760-7138, or by email at
SHADistrict6@sha.state.md.us.
While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
