(August 29, 2012) – Starting Wednesday, September 5, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will mill, resurface and restripe approximately two and one-half miles of MD 135 (Maryland Highway) from Shady Acre Lane to just west of Sand Flat Road, east of Oakland. The $1.2 million project is expected to conclude by the end of September, weather permitting.

During the project, crews will reduce traffic to one lane using a flagging operation weekdays during daylight hours, approximately 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Motorists should prepare for possible delays during peak hours and use caution in the area.

SHA’s contractor for the project is Keystone Lime Co. of Springs, Pa. Once the paving is complete, the more than 7,000 drivers who travel MD 135 every day will have a smoother and safer ride.

Customers who have questions about traffic operations along MD 135 or other State numbered routes in Garrett County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138.  People may also follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
