(August 23, 2012) –Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, August 24, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the ramp from eastbound Security Boulevard (MD 122) to southbound I-695 (Beltway Outer Loop). The weekend ramp closures and detours will allow BGE crews to repair a major gas line underneath the ramp. The ramp closure will be in effect between 10 p.m. Friday, August 24 and 5 a.m. Monday, August 27.
Motorists traveling from eastbound Security Boulevard to southbound I-695 will be directed to the following detour: continue on eastbound Security Boulevard, turn left onto Woodlawn Drive, turn left onto Whitehead Road, turn right onto westbound Security Boulevard and turn right onto the ramp to southbound I-695.
Motorists traveling from Security Square Mall and other destinations on eastbound Security Boulevard or southbound I-695 should anticipate delays and plan ahead for extra travel time.
BGE will not interrupt gas service to its customers in the area during the repair work. For more information about the BGE gas line repair work, BGE customers may contact BGE through its website,
www.bge.com or by phone at 410-685-0123 or toll-free 1-800-685-0123.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
