(July 6, 2012) – On Monday, July 9, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is beginning a resurfacing project on MD 36 (Mt. Savage Road) in Allegany County. SHA will resurface a one and one-half mile section of MD 36 between MD 638 (Parkersburg Road) and the southern limits of the Town of Mount Savage, near New School Road. Weather permitting, the project will be complete before school resumes in late August.
The project will begin with a one-night closure of MD 36 between Parkersburg Road and New School Road from 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, through 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, so crews may replace drainage pipes that cross the road. During this closure, work crews will detour traffic using Slabtown Road back to MD 36. Throughout the rest of the project, motorists should anticipate single lane closures between sunrise and sunset. Crews will use a flagging operation to alternate traffic during daytime hours.
SHA awarded the approximately $600,000 contract to Keystone Lime of Springs, Pa. Customers who have questions about traffic operations along MD 36 or other State numbered routes in Allegany County may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll free at 1-800-760-7138. Motorists may also follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.
As crews strive to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
