Multiple Lane Closures on Southbound I-95 at MD 214 (Central Avenue)
(Jan. 13, 2020) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will shift traffic on southbound I-95 (inner loop of I-495) at the MD 214 (Central Ave.) interchange in Prince George’s County starting Tuesday night. The traffic shift is necessary for crews to continue the dual bridge replacement project at this location.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, motorists can expect single lane closures, followed by two lanes at 10 p.m. and triple lane closures at 12 midnight. The shift should be complete, and all lanes open, by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Approximately 231,000 vehicles travel this location each day, but traffic volumes are significantly lower at night. Motorists are urged to plan extra commute time during the traffic shift. The work is part of the $26 million dual bridge replacement project, which will be complete by late fall of 2021.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
