​Motorists Should Expect Daytime Lane Closures on US 40 and US 1 in Harford County 

(March 6, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning two new paving projects in Harford County beginning next week. The first project begins on Monday, March 11 and will be on US 40 (Pulaski Highway) east of Joppatowne. The second project, which begins in April, will be on US 1 (Belair Road) north of Kingsville. 

Beginning 9 a.m. Monday, March 11, contractor crews will begin work on eastbound and westbound US 40 between the Baltimore/Harford County line (Little Gunpowder Falls) and MD 152 (Mountain Road/Magnolia Road). Motorists should expect temporary lane closures along this section of US 40 Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Beginning in late May, contractor crews will begin work on northbound and southbound US 1 between the Baltimore/Harford County line (Little Gunpowder Falls) and MD 152 (Fallston Road/Mountain Road). Motorists should expect temporary lane closures along this section of US 1 Mondays through Fridays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This work was postponed.

These projects are part of a $10.5 million State Highway Administration contract to improve safety and ride quality of pavements on primary state highways within Baltimore and Harford counties. Contractor Gray & Son, Inc. of Timonium will perform pavement milling, patching and resurfacing work at both locations.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
