Motorists Can Expect Single-Lane Closure, Flagging Operation through May
(February 29, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration begin a project to improve highway drainage systems on MD 851 (Main Street) between Wilson Avenue and West Friendship Road, at the Carroll County/Howard County line beginning Monday, March 4. The project is expected to be complete by May.
Crews will remove an aging storm drain system and install new drainage structures on, a span of a quarter mile of MD 851, in Sykesville. Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, crews will close one lane of traffic and use a flagging operation to maintain two-way traffic on MD 851. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The contractor, Allied Contractors, Inc. based in Baltimore, will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the lane closure and work zone.
When the drainage improvements are complete, the State Highway Administration will install a new roadway surface over this section of MD 851.
