I-495 sign
Drivers can Expect Triple-Lane Closures Through End of Year.
(November 9, 2023) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to maintain pavement and improve ride quality on I-495 (The Capital Beltway) between MD 191 (Bradley Boulevard) and east of Linden Lane and between east of Northwest Branch Anacostia River and US-29 (Colesville Road) on Sunday, November 12. The work will be complete by the end of the year, weather permitting.
The work will be performed nightly 9 p.m.-5 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays. Drivers can expect triple-lane closures in both directions on I-495 during work. Closing three travel lanes will provide a safe buffer to enhance protection of road workers.
The State Highway Administrations contractor, Pavement Contracting Services, Inc. of Glenn Dale, will use cones, barrels, and arrow boards to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is aware that lane closures are inconvenient but are necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance. For a list of all major State Highway Administration projects, go to
