Starting Monday, Motorists Should Look Ahead for Work Zones, Temporary Lane Closures

(August 24, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is replacing and upgrading sections of guardrail within the I-195 (Metropolitan Boulevard) interchange with MD 166 (Rolling Road) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County entrance in Catonsville beginning Monday, August 28. The project should be complete by mid fall, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect single lane closures and shoulder closures and traffic lane shifts where needed within the interchange area Mondays through Fridays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Contractor crews will remove and replace sections of barriers on northbound and southbound I-195 (Metropolitan Boulevard) between south of the Park and Ride lot and the Selford Avenue Bridge, and also work along the northbound and southbound I-195 interchange ramps to and from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) entrance.

The work is part of the State Highway Administration’s ongoing program to enhance safety through traffic barrier upgrades. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, L.S. Lee, Inc. of York, PA., will use arrow boards, cones, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration understands temporary lane shifts and shoulder closures can be an inconvenience, but this work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. Motorists are asked to reduce speeds approaching and while in active work zones.
