Single-Lane Closure on US 1 in Mount Rainier Required Beginning May 9
(May 5, 2023) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close one
northbound lane of US 1 (Rhode Island Avenue) between Eastern Avenue (Washington D.C. line) and 34th Street in Mount Rainier beginning Tuesday, May 9, to repair a failed drainage pipe. The repairs are expected to be complete in approximately three weeks, weather permitting.
During the work, motorists can expect a right-lane closure of northbound US 1 Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Southbound lanes will not be affected. “No parking” signs will be placed from Eastern Avenue to 34th Street.
Allied Contractors Inc., of Baltimore, will use arrow boards, signs, cones and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Customers with questions may contact the State Highway Administration District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
The State Highway Administration understands lane closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable transportation system.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
