Drivers Can Expect Overnight Single-Lane Closures, Weeknights Starting May 8
(May 3, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project on Monday, May 8, to resurface MD 2 (Gov. Ritchie Highway) between Hammonds Lane and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in northern Anne Arundel County. The project is expected to be complete by late fall, weather permitting.
Enhancements include:
- pavement patching and resurfacing MD 2 travel lanes;
- replacing or installing new guardrail;
- constructing sidewalk ramps at select locations compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act;
- replacing concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter;
- replacing and cleaning existing drainage inlets and pipes; and
- replacing existing pavement markings and installing new traffic signs.
Crews will begin concrete curb and gutter work at the northern end of the project limits first. Beginning Monday, motorists should expect overnight single-lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, Sundays through Thursdays. Portable variable message signs, temporary traffic signs and barrels will guide drivers safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor for the $1 million project is F.O. Day Construction of Rockville. Customers with questions about this work may contact the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603.
The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience, but it is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
Motorists in need may dial #77 from their cell phone for assistance.
