Project will Improve I-68 Pavement Conditions in Frostburg

(April 3, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a $3.8 million project this week to enhance safety and improve pavement conditions along a one-mile stretch of eastbound I-68 in Frostburg.

During the project, various lane closures will be in effect in areas of the work zone from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, from a mile west of MD 546 to the Allegany County line. Crews will use barrels and cones to alert motorists of lane closures. The project improvements will include:

  • patching, milling, paving and adding pavement markings;
  • installing underdrains to improve highway drainage; and
  • upgrading lighting and traffic barriers.

The project is expected to be complete by late winter 2023. Contractor Keystone Lime Company, of Springs, Pa., will perform the work.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
