Project Will Replace 67-Year-Old Bridge in Millington Area; Project Supports Safe, Reliable and Efficient Transportation Network
(September 20, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project Monday, September 26, to replace the northbound US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) bridge over Chester River, south of the MD 291 overpass near Millington, in Queen Anne’s County.
The $12.1 million project is expected to be complete by fall 2023, and will include:
- Demolition of the existing 67-year-old bridge.
- Construction of a new 235-foot-long bridge.
- Improvement of highway drainage.
- Paving and landscaping.
Crews will close the northbound US 301 bridge to ensure a safe work zone. A temporary crossover will be constructed to shift northbound traffic across the median onto one lane of the southbound alignment to guide motorists through the work zone. A concrete barrier will separate northbound and southbound lanes in the temporary traffic pattern.
MDOT SHA contractor JJID Inc. of Bear, Del., will perform the work. Additional information on the project can be found here.
Beginning October 1, 2022, the Move Over Law in Maryland will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
