Motorists Should Stay Alert for Overnight Lane Closure
(September 14, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close one lane of southbound I-97 in northern Anne Arundel County overnight this Thursday, September 15, to perform pavement repairs. Crews will work on
southbound I-97 between MD 648 (Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard) and the bridge over MD 176 (Dorsey Road).
Beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, crews will close the southbound I-97 right lane. The work is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Friday, September 16, weather permitting. MDOT SHA crews will use barrels and traffic signage to guide motorists safely through the work zone. Drivers should be prepared for intermittent ramp closures lasting up to 10 minutes along the on-ramps from MD 648 and MD 176 onto southbound I-97 while work is underway.
Customers with questions about this project may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or 1-800-331-5603.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
MDOT SHA also reminds motorists that beginning October 1, 2022, the Move Over Law in Maryland will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
