Motorists Should Stay Alert, Allow Extra Travel Time and Follow Detour Route; Overnight Parking will be Prohibited in Work Zone
(Sept. 13, 2022) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close a section of MD 45 (York Road) between Towsontown Boulevard and Joppa Road for three consecutive nights starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, September 18, in order to complete a pavement patching project.
Weather permitting, the closure will take place during overnight hours only, from 9 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, September 18-20, to 5 a.m. the next morning. MDOT SHA advises motorists to plan for extra travel time in and around downtown Towson overnight on those three nights, and pedestrians should use caution while walking through the work zone.
Motorists will be directed to use Bosley Avenue/Towson Bypass (MD 45 Bypass) to reach destinations in Towson. Baltimore County Police will enforce a temporary prohibition of parking along this section of York Road during the overnight paving work. The Towson Roundabout will remain open to traffic, except for the York Road legs south of Joppa Road.
MDOT SHA contractor Gray & Son Inc., of Timonium, will use digital message boards, temporary traffic signs and barrels to guide motorists through the detour route. In the event of inclement weather, work will take place on the next possible weeknight.
Beginning October 1, 2022, the Move Over Law in Maryland will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
