(April 5, 2011) – Beginning at midnight tonight, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close a lane along westbound I-70 in Washington County.  Crews will close one lane to repair a 135-foot section of pavement near the bridge over Black Rock Road (just east of Exit 35 – MD 66).

Work will begin at midnight and continue until 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.  Weather permitting, SHA will complete the repairs by the evening commute.

“SHA must perform the work during the morning and afternoon to ensure temperatures are suitable for new pavement to achieve adequate strength,” said Anthony Crawford, SHA District 6 Engineer. “By allowing crews to work during the 15-hour timeframe, we anticipate completing the repairs without affecting tomorrow’s evening commute.”

Remember that work zones are not only large construction projects possibly taking years to complete, but smaller, mobile operations such as mowing, pothole repair and litter pick ups.  This week is National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week - choose to make work zone safety your business at www.choosesafetyforlife.com.
