Repairs Require Double Lane Closures on US 50 Westbound this Sunday
(May 16, 2025) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin repairs to a pedestrian bridge that spans US 50 (John Hanson Highway) prior to MD 197 (Collington Road) in Bowie. Crews will be taking measurements required for the permanent repairs, which will take place after Memorial Day.
Beginning this Sunday, May 18, crews will close the two right lanes on westbound US 50 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drivers should plan alternate routes or plan additional drive time.
The bridge is safe for vehicles to travel under but will require several structural repairs following it being struck by an oversized load on May 12. The bridge will be closed to pedestrians until repairs are complete.
The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits as well as other traffic pattern changes.
